Expiry Matters
Co-initiated AND WORK with Elisabete Gomes
Expiry Matters began as pre-pandemic conversations between me and Elisabete Gomes, exploring how reshaping our consumption habits and reusing materials could significantly reduce waste, leading to circular and regenerative action. These discussions inspired 'Repair,' a workshop centered on extending the life of clothing. When the pandemic hit, we adapted our efforts into a podcast, Expiry Matters Conversations, holding space for voices and reflections moving towards regeneration and deep ecology.
Later, we launched a project to repurpose a deactivated train station. Our goal was to develop a micro-ecosystem that would explore regenerative pathways for climate adaptation and environmental and social resilience.
Expiry Matters conversations
In this online space, we share conversations and insights about regeneration, deep ecology, and the evolving concept of sustainability. Through occasional discussions, we engage with individuals making a difference, envisioning futures where humans and more-than-humans coexist in harmony.
We seek out people whose projects, daily routines, or philosophies inspire us to think differently and challenge us to explore new possibilities. By amplifying their voices, we hope to spark meaningful reflections and actions toward a more positive future.
Montoito train station project
Our goal was to transform a deactivated train station in Alentejo, Portugal, into a benchmark for climate resilience and regenerative pathways. It would be a physical and digital community, with an in-residence space for creatives, researchers, educational institutions, corporations and change-makers. A space that would also enhance experiences with nature and the local communities. Sadly, despite all our efforts, we couldn’t gather enough funding to make this vision a reality.

One million people, one forest
One Million People, One Forest was the crowdfunding campaign we created to raise the funds needed to secure the station and kickstart the first stage of the project. This stage included rehabilitating the train station, planting a forest on the site, and building in-person and online communities centred on the legacy of regeneration.
The goal of the campaign was to reach as many people as possible, giving them the chance to become our ambassadors by contributing and spreading the word. In return, we offered perks like access to our annual gathering, stays at the station, and use of the workstation.
